Bringing Life to the Bible with a Book – Imagine. . .The Great Flood by Matt Koceich Review

Bringing Life to the Bible with a Book – Imagine. . .The Great Flood by Matt Koceich Review

As a Charlotte Mason homeschooler, I have seen first hand the way a book can take my children to another world. There is nothing like getting lost in a book and if it has a connection to history or the bible that makes it even sweeter. Barbour Publishing has taken the bible and created a new series that takes your children on an adventure.

Family Chores – Everyday Homemaking Review

Family Chores – Everyday Homemaking Review

We have a very active family. Between homeschooling, gymnastics, baseball and all of the other activities mixed in, we seem to be constantly busy. If cleaning the house was a chore only I could do, our house would be perpetually dirty. There are just not enough hours in the day.

Everyday Homemaking - Modern Momma Musings

We’ve changed the chore schedule many times to try and get a good fit and I think this may be continually changing as we grow in duties and expectations. I am always looking for a better way or a different idea and Everyday Homemaking has published a book,The Everyday Family Chore System, that may be just what we needed to jump start the fall.

Enjoying Another Great Audio Production – Heirloom Audio Productions Review

Audio books and stories are a hit or miss. Many times we start an audio book only to realize the reader is not wonderful and we end up abandoning the audiobook. I’ve learned to do a bit of research before just choosing any audiobook. One company we love to listen to is Heirloom Audio Productions. We’ve listened to many of their audiobooks so the kids and I were excited to listen to their newest addition In the Reign of Terror.

Confidence Boost – Science for Every Teacher Review

Confidence Boost – Science for Every Teacher Review

I love science, but I don’t feel I understand it enough to teach it well. Luckily, my kids are still young so I have a bit of time to start digging deeper before the big chemistry, physics etc., will need to be taught. Knowing my lack of understanding has led me to begin reading and learning on my own now; so that I am prepared when we hit the big science topics. Novare Science & Math offer a multitude of science books and I was lucky enough to have the chance to review Science for Every Teacher.

Science for Every Teacher Review - Modern Momma Musings

Science for Every Teacher was written to help all of us that are not quite as confident in teaching science as we would prefer. The book leads the teacher into a better understanding of Physics, starting with Scientific Knowledge, through a multitude of topics ranging from atoms, momentum and simple machines, to pressure and buoyancy and geometric optics. The great thing about the book is that you could read it through, then reference it again and again while you are teaching specific topics. Novare Science for Every Teacher

The chapters have a list of goals and a quick synopsis of the chapter, before the chapter itself begins. This gives a good overview of what you will be learning during that section. I thought the chapters were written in an easy to understand way, the pulled block quotes, definitions, tables, figures and examples were very helpful in my understanding of the topic. I also loved that the chapter ended with an “Ideas for your classroom” section. This will be very helpful when we begin studying these topics in our classroom, as I am always looking for fun ways to incorporate new topics.

Science for Every Teacher Review - Modern Momma Musings

While I haven’t had a good chance to test the information I’ve read in the book with my teaching skills, I have found that I am noticing things in my day-to-day life that I can understand much better. While I remember learning a lot of the information that is discussed in the book, there are so many things I had forgotten or had never truly understood. I have found that the explanations, examples and figures have been very helpful with my understanding of these ideas.

I would definitely recommend Science for Every Teacher to anyone who wants to get a better grasp on the topics they will be covering in their Physics classroom. It is a great refresher and a way to get you started on your understanding so that you can pass that onto your students. It will be a great addition to the books we will be using in the later years of our homeschooling journey. I plan to keep it within reach throughout, so that I can reference it quickly, when any questions arise.

If you are past physics, you’ll be happy to know that they are working on books for Chemistry and Earth Science now. In the meantime, Novare Science & Math has some other great resources for Earth Science, Introductory Physics, General Chemistry and more. Their teachers resources section has many great books and tools for helping you teach science in a way that your students will understand, because you understand!

My next purchase will be the Teaching Science so that Students Learn Science book and I am excited to add the additional titles of the Science for Every Teacher series as they become available.

Braving History with Rush Limbaugh – Rush Revere Series Review

Braving History with Rush Limbaugh – Rush Revere Series Review

In years past I have listened to a lot of Rush Limbaugh. I didn’t always agree with him, but I appreciate his strong opinion and how he can push me to think through the things I believe to gain a better understanding.

I remember when he began the Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series. At the time my kids were only 5 and 3 so I knew it would be a while before they were something they could dig into. Imagine my excitement when I was given the chance to review the Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh this year!

Raising Superheros, and Reading About Them, Too! – Captain Absolutely Review

Raising Superheros, and Reading About Them, Too! – Captain Absolutely Review

My son is very interested in everything superhero, so I knew he would be very interested in the new book from Focus On The Family, Captain Absolutely.

 Captain Absolutely
We’ve always enjoyed the Adventures in Odyssey and Clubhouse Magazine from Focus On The Family so I was excited to have a superhero book that would be Christian based without extra violence. Little did I realize, the comic’s main character and the story came from the Focus on the Family, Clubhouse Magazine cartoon of the same name.

Books For Moms – Mother’s Day Treats

I have taken a bit of a break from my Back to the Classics Challenge to read a few great mothering books.

Books for Mom - Mothers Day Treats - Modern Momma Musings

I’m a sucker for books written about parenting, but motherhood is my favorite. I love that I can completely relate (most of the time) and that they have me laughing and crying throughout. There is something special about the bond of motherhood.
