Faith Building and Your Tween – Weave Your Word in Me Review

As we are entering the tween years, it is becoming very clear to me that there are so many issues that need to be discussed as they begin to question, understand and yearn for answers. Some of them are easier than others, but they are there and we need to lead the way.

Digging deeper into our faith is one of the many ways we can lead our children, especially tweens into a better relationship with God. So I was excited to have the opportunity to review Weave Your Word in Me — Part 1 by Kid Niche Christian Books with my tween daughter.

What is Weave Your Word in Me

Weave Your Word in Me is a bible curriculum made especially for tweens (those sweet girls in 4th -6th grade). The study has 2 units with 36 lessons for you to work through with your daughter, classroom, prayer group, really any Christian setting.

The first unit focuses on God the Father and the second unit on God the Son. Each lesson has bible readings and questions to help your tween understand the readings more deeply. Weave Your Word in Me works with many translations of the bible as well, KJV, ESV, NKJV, NIV, NASB, NABRE. Each lesson also includes a prayer guide and an answer key.

How we Used Weave Your Word in Me

My daughter and I worked through a lesson 4-days a week. After our normal religion lesson we would work on Weave Your Word in Me for 30 or so minutes. We talked about what we read and we discussed the questions together. We even had a few chances to dig deeper into the Catholic Church’s teachings on certain issues.

Our Impression

After using the  Weave Your Word in Me bible curriculum for a few weeks I found it easy to lead and be led to dig deeper into God’s word, while also taking it a step further to make it fit more into our Catholic faith.

I did not think it was leaning too much to any particular faith base, but I did find multiple opportunities to read and understand how the Catholic Church differs from other faiths, such as in baptism and reconciliation.

The background information was very well written and made the lesson easier to understand. Sunshine, especially enjoyed the timeline of Jesus’ death and Resurrection. It made it more clear to her the events of those few days and that clicked for her understanding as well.

I was disappointed that it was just a ream of paper 3-hole punched. I put it in a binder, but I felt it would have been nicer if it had been coil bound or bound in some other way. The binder took away from the beauty of the book itself.

The illustrations were beautiful, however, there were a few that bordered on frightening. We did not use the workbook as a workbook, instead we choose to discuss and work together through the questions and activities. My daughter is not a sit down and write an answer type of girl, discussions work much better for her understanding, but this was easy to adjust for our needs.

Overall, I would recommend it to parents of tweens who want to work to guide their daughters and sons into a better understanding of God’s word and hopes for us all.
