Planners. There are so many to choose from and each has something appealing but many just don’t have it all. We have been homeschooling for two years now, and I have used both online, printed and bound, as well as printable planners. All in search of the perfect planner… if it exists. The latest planner I have received is one I am excited to get started with. That planner is the new Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 from The Old Schoolhouse.
One of the first things I noticed about the planner was the size. Not only the overall size (9″ x 11″) but the size of the areas to write within. I love having room to make notes and add things as needed. Both the monthly calendar area and the weekly planners have plenty of area for making notes.
And because they are blank spreadsheets it is easy to customize the weekly planner to fit our needs. Every printed planner I have had previously had printed subjects and days, so I was constantly crossing out things and changing them to fit our homeschool. The Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner makes this much less of a mess on the page which is very enticing to me and my perfectionism.
The other thing I really love is the Hey Mama! note areas. The notes spread consists of one page containing a great inspirational writing and the facing page contains a lined note sheet for each month. I think this will be very handy and I love having a nice inspiration for each month as well.
The Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner is even more than a homeschool planner. I love that it contains a complete area with monthly goals, not just for your homeschool, but your life as well. Each month, semester and/or year you can layout your goals for educational, spiritual, physical, personal talents, life skills, financial, and relational parts of your families life. This is such a nice way to see what you are working on in each aspect both in the short and long term.
There are great tracking lists and charts for up to five children. The attendance chart has 180 (number labeled) check boxes allow you to mark each day quickly and easily allowing you to where they are in your year with a quick glance. You can also track the books you are reading/have read for each child. Each line contains Title, Author and Date of Completion. Want to keep track of your curriculum for the year, there’s a worksheet for that as well. I love that the charts are simple but track what you need.
The fun extras included in the Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner include – writing prompts, story starters, The Thirteen Colonies by Date, Timeline of Inventions, Presidents and their Wives, Government Branches, US States and Capitals, and so much more!
I cannot wait to get started on planning for July!
