Painting can be extremely messy!
We host a bi-weekly art co-op at our house with some homeschooling friends. There are six kids ranging from two to eight years old. The older five kids do a pretty good job of following the instructions and not making a huge mess, but my rambunctious two year old is another story!
Sugar Plum wants to be involved in the art class, which is wonderful, The problem is that I can’t just let her paint. I have to be ready for a spill or splatter at every moment. And I am the one teaching the class. For this reason, I was very excited to review Thin Stix 6pk of Classic Colors by The Pencil Grip, Inc..
One of the first things I noticed was that the plastic container kept Sugar Plum’s hands and arms clean as she painted. The little bit she ended up with on her body, came off easily with a damp paper towel.
The caps were a bit difficult for her little hands to manipulate, but in a few months I don’t think this will be an issue. I like that they are tight fitting, as I am hopeful it will keep the paint usable for a longer period of time!
Another great aspect of Thin Stix is the lack of water. Water, many times, is the messiest part of painting with a toddler. The dipping, splashing, dripping and pouring are her favorite parts of paint. In fact, I’m not sure there is ever paint on the paper when she is using watercolor paints. I loved that I did not have to worry about a cup of water while she was painting. This not only made the colors of the painting much brighter, but the table was dry, she was dry and her artwork was not floating in a mess of water either. Win-Win.
Clean up was a breeze as well. There was just a little bit of paint on Sugar Plum and a paper towel and water was all I needed to get rid of that mess. Her artwork was dry, making storing or displaying immediate, instead of hours or days. I ensured the Thin Stix lids were all on securely and they were put away and I was done! Simple and quick!
Thin Stix allowed me to teach art while Sugar Plum enjoyed the day as well! I felt confident letting her be an artist with the older kiddos and she had a blast. These are now a staple in our art co-op!
There are so many ways you can use the Thin Stix 6pk of Classic Colors. Posters would look amazing with the easy to use tempera paint. They would also be perfect for traveling as they are small and easy to pack, plus they are virtually mess free.
We loved our Thin Stix and are excited to use them in other ways too. If you would like to see how other mom’s have used the Thin Stix 6pk of Classic Colors check out the other reviews by our Homeschool Review Crew here:
