I remember moment I heard that Jorge Bergoglio was chosen as the head of the church. The kids were napping, and I was working at my computer. I stopped what I was doing and did some research on this Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina. A little while later, I was pretty sure I was going to like him.
It didn’t take long before the stories of his simple life and love for everyone started to surface. The more I learned about him the more I wanted to know. There is something about him that touches my heart and makes me want to be a better Catholic. His kind, simple, loving life is a testament to the type of person he is and this is the type of leader (IMHO) the church needs right now.
Flash forward a few years, I have started back to my morning routine again after getting back to normal at home with our newest member, Sugar Plum. Shortly after I started back up, I was given the opportunity to add a new book to my morning with God, Pope Francis – Encountering Truth – Meeting God in the Everyday.
Encountering Truth is a compilation of Pope Francis’ morning homilies from St. Martha’s Chapel. With three kids under 7, there is no way I will be traveling to Rome anytime soon, so hearing Pope Francis’ homilies is next to impossible for me. This book gives me a piece of that celebration each morning.
The addition to my morning has been wonderful. I enjoy reading and reflecting on the readings and his humility and love are present in each homily. The way he makes the readings and gospels touch your heart are amazing. Encountering Truth has helped me gain a deeper connection with my bible reading and presents ways to bring what I have read into my daily life. This connection is helping me start my day off on the right foot. It’s something I can grab and re-read when needed. It has been the source for many journal entries and is helping me to grow my faith each day.
