Time For Us – Mother-Daughter Bonding Over Coloring Books

Time For Us – Mother-Daughter Bonding Over Coloring Books

Since my kids were small, I’ve colored with them in their coloring books. This is fun but nothing like the mother-daughter bonding Sunshine and I enjoy with our coloring books and colored pencils. In fact, I bought Sunshine a mandela coloring book so that we could color together, but once she saw my big thick Wonderland Coloring Book from Amily Shen, she wanted one for herself. So on our date day, she picked her very own grown up coloring book so we could color together.

And color we did, for a few hours! We enjoyed the beautiful day with some music, a coloring book and some colored pencils. It was delightful!

From the moment my Wonderland Coloring Book arrived, I was itching to get started coloring. The book follows along with the Alice in Wonderland story and it is beautiful!

I love that the words on the page are an inspiration for the illustrations. There is something wonderful about getting lost in words and a bit of color!

The illustrations are gorgeous and not overwhelming which, in mommy time, is nice. I can feel as if I accomplished a whole page of beauty and it doesn’t take days and days to complete. Some of the pages have extra space for your own additions, which is a fun extra for those creative types. However, even if you don’t have a creative bone in your body, this type of coloring book, is a wonderful way to relax, no artistic abilities needed. Just let yourself go and embrace the extra white space!

So if you enjoy Alice in Wonderland, are looking for a coloring book that will inspire your creative juices, or want a fun way to bond with your kiddos, this Wonderland Coloring Book is a great option!

Relax and enter the world of Alice.

It was a beautiful ceremony with our parish priest and seven other children and their families.

Our priest is especially good at making these special ceremonies very personal and memorable. It was no different yesterday.

I blessed my mommy and daddy on Friday December 5th, 2008 at 6:58 am. I was just running out of room in mommy’s belly and couldn’t wait to get out. So at 3:30 in the morning, mommy’s water broke and they went into the hospital thinking they would have hours to wait until I came along. Little did they know how anxious I was to see them.

Mommy and daddy arrived at the hospital at 5:00 am and after they filled out paperwork, they got mommy into her private room and down on the bed. At this point her contractions were still pretty tame. I heard mommy ask the nurse how much she was dilated and the nurse checked and told her she was already 6 cm and 90% effaced (whatever that means). Then the nurse asked mommy if she wanted an epidural. Mommy quickly consented to that. Once the anesthesiologist arrived mommy’s contractions were getting pretty hard. The anesthesiologist went through the preliminary information about the epidural and got mommy set up on the side of the bed in position to insert the needle. While mommy was sitting up on the bed, I really bared down on her and she started to get contractions that were really bad and painful. I heard mommy tell the nurse, “I feel like she’s coming out!” just as the anesthesiologist was getting ready to insert the needle. The nurse decided to check to see how much she was dilated, once again. This was at 6:15 am. I heard the nurse tell mommy she was fully dilated and 100% effaced and that I was coming out. The nurse told mommy there was no time for an epidural and that she was going to find out first hand how people go through childbirth without any drugs.

The nurse called the doctor and made mommy lay on her side so she wouldn’t be able to push till the doctor got there. Mommy had to wait about 25 minutes for the doctor to get there. She was struggling cause she wanted to push me out. She told the nurse to tell the doctor to hurry up and get there cause she really wanted to push. The doctor arrived around 6:45 am and they immediately got mommy in position to push. After about 10 hard pushes, 15 minutes later, I was born at 6:58 am.

Daddy cut the cord and after a quick check of my vital signs they laid me on mommy’s chest and all of the hospital personnel left the room, and mommy, daddy and I got to spend some quality time together and get to know one another. After about an half an hour my Nonnie and Aunt Sis arrived. They didn’t know I had been born until they walked into the room and saw me laying on mommy. They were shocked that it had gone so quickly and they had missed it.

Pretty soon all sorts of people started showing up to see me. I got passed around like a loaf of bread. Mommy and daddy spent a couple days in the hospital with me, surrounded by family and friends. We got to come home on Sunday December 7th around lunch time. Since then I have just been sleeping around the house and playing with my dog Oreo.
