Taking the Road Less Traveled

I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on motherhood, parenting and life in general. I keep coming back to the thought that we need to follow our hearts. Even when it is very different than what others think is best.

Taking the Road Less Traveled - Modern Momma Musings

One of my favorite poems is The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. The line at the end has always spoken to me:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Why do we feel that we need to be doing what everyone else is doing?

There is so much beauty and independence in taking the road less traveled. Even if this makes us seem like the black sheep.

In many areas of my life, I have tried to follow the road less traveled. Even when many people in my life thought it was just an experiment or that I would soon come back to their way. I don’t want to be another follower of the norm. I want to be the leader and sometimes that means taking a different path.

Every major step down these roads, has been started with prayer and continued with even more prayer. It is hard to let go and let God lead me where he wants me to go. I soon discovered it is a great feeling as well!

I’ve not made these choices to spite others (even though that’s what some people believed), I did it because, even after much prayer and consideration it was what was right for me and our family.

Everyone is different and everyone has different needs and desires. We are not cookie cutter people, we are created with a soul and each of us is a beautiful image of God. If we let him lead us instead of the media, others in our circles, family, or anyone else that may be persuading you to do what is the best in their mind, even if it is not best for you.

Tune them out, pray and do what you feel called to do.

Because when it comes down to it, only you will truly know where you are meant to be heading.

So if the road less traveled is where you are called, travel it with an open mind and see where God is leading you.

Being the outcast can be hard. You soon realize who really cares about you, and who just wants to try and manipulate your life.

Be your own person, take that road if you are called to it, even when everyone else says it’s not the right one for you.

You are living your life. God has a plan for you.

Make your own decisions with a bit of prayer and stand by them even when it means you are not doing the norm.

It’s hard but it will make all the difference.
