This month in our tot school area I have put the focus on transportation and the color red.
Our transportation area includes some cars, trains and planes. And her favorite the Little People Airplane. All of my kids have loved this toy and it didn’t fail me with Sugar Plum either.
We have a few books in the bin as well. A few Richard Scarry books, Baby Touch: Things that Go book as well as Wheels on the Go.
She is now saying “car”, “vroom” and sometimes “plane” so I’d say she’s getting a bit from our little area. The best part is that it keeps her pretty well entertained while I get schoolwork done with the other two kiddos.
The red bin has been a lot of fun for Sugar Plum as well. It contains, few red pipe cleaners, a red bowling pin, some red Duplo blocks, a red plastic apple, a red popsicle stick, a piece of red felt, a red maraca, and a Dr. Seuss red color flash card.
She loves taking the pieces out and putting them back in. The textures are interesting for her as well. Overall it has been a good bin. We are also pointing out red everywhere we go. This has been something the kids have enjoyed having a part in as well.
Her favorite color book has definitely been Bear Sees Colors. We’ve read it so many times I think I can recite it by heart now. We actually might have to purchase the book instead of just borrowing from the library!
In addition to our bins, we have been working on some motor skills as well.
Sugar Plum loves moving things from one bin to another and stacking the bins as well.
Taking off lids and putting pom poms in a hole on top has been a fun activity as well. This is also a frustrating activity for her as taking off and putting on the lid are a bit more difficult.
She has also loved using a spoon to transfer (or mostly stir) pom poms.
Pulling pieces of fabric from a tissue box has been another favorite for Sugar Plum.
She also loves coloring with her large crayons.
And flipping through magazines, pointing to the animals she knows. I think we now know where all the dogs are in this particular magazine. 🙂
