Books. Books. Books. – Booklist – November 2015

The kids are officially devouring books! They are reading them in a couple days and spending any free time they have reading. I am loving watching this love of books come alive in both of them. Here’s a bit of what we have been reading lately.

Booklist November 2015

Indian In the Cupboard – We finished this early this month and we all loved it. It brought back memories of my childhood and the kids could not get enough of the fun storyline. I plan to read the others in the series sometime in the near future, hopefully they will be as loved.

The Hoboken Chicken Emergency – This was a silly read for the kids. I wasn’t crazy about it, but the kids seemed to enjoy it.

The Wind in the Willows – Unfortunately, we had the abridged version of this story and I felt like it was lacking in storyline. It left many things unexplained and cut from one thing to the next without much to make the connection. We will definitely be reading the unabridged version in the next year or so. I feel like it would have been a great read-a-loud if not for the abridged version. the kids loved it though.

Picture Books

Anything by Dr. Seuss – Always a favorite author.

Mouse’s First Fall – Mister Man loves reading this to Sugar Plum while I am changing her diaper. It’s the perfect length.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom – Both kids loved this and now we are passing that love onto Sugar Plum. Such a fun book.

Read Alone – Kiddos

Winnie the Pooh – Sunshine finished this and loved it! The look on her face when she finished was priceless and it was only moments later she was asking what she could read next. I love that it started her desire to read more.

Circle C Beginnings – Sunshine read the three in this series within a few weeks. She loves anything horse related and could not put these down. They were great beginner chapter books.

Horse Diaries – Sunshine just started this series and seems to really enjoy it. We will be picking up a few more from the library this week.

Hardy Boys Secret Files Series – Mister Man has been going through these in a day. He loves them and doesn’t want to put them down.

Magic Tree House Series – Another series that Mister Man has been enjoying. We own the series so he has been mixing them in with his library choices and has now read most of them.

Burgess Bird Book for Children (In Process) – We have almost finished this and should be done next week. Still loving it!

We’ve talked about Pennsylvania this month and have read The story of Punxsutawney Phil, “the fearless forecaster”, A humble life : plain poems. They’ve been very informative and fun reads for the kids.

We have been doing Story of the World but we mixed in a bit of Thanksgiving history for this month too. We read An old-fashioned Thanksgiving and really enjoyed it.
