Childhood dreams do sometimes come true, but it’s crazy to look back and see how they have evolved through the years. What was a simple childhood dream of staying at home with my kiddos has become so much more. Here are a few things that stemmed from that basic childhood dream and have found a way to change our lives forever.
I always wanted to be a stay-at-home-mom
From a very young age I knew that when the time came I wanted to be at home with my kids. Being a mom has always been a dream and for me staying at home with them was the ultimate job. Luckily things worked out and I got to follow that dream.
I never imagined I’d be a work-at-home-mom
In the same respect as always wanting to be a stay-at-home-mom never in my dreams did I forsee a future where i would be able to work from home as well. The internet has opened so many different options and continuing to work has been a blessing. It would seem my work hours would need to be taken back but somehow I put in about the same amount of hours as I was before only now they are spread throughout the day. A few hours in the morning before the kids wake up. A few hours in the afternoon while the kids nap/do quiet time. A few hours in the evening after everyone is in bed. Plus the weekends when necessary. In a normal day I get a good 6-8 hours of work into my day – mostly from home, sometimes in the car, and occassionally at a coffee shop.
I never imagined I would be a homeschooling mom
Growing up I never knew much about homeschooling, but then a friend opened my eyes to homeschooling and after touring the kindergarten my daughter was about the attend, we quickly realized she would be bored in a normal school environment. She was already reading and writing and could count past 200 easily. They were just starting the basics so I knew it wasn’t a good fit. A little more research, a lot of prayer and a ton of support and we were diving head first into a new chapter in our lives. A chapter I cannot imagine re-writing. It has been the most amazing adventure one that I will cherish forever. Homeschooling has been a blessing I never thought would be a part of our life.
One of the beautiful thing about dreams is they keep growing, changing and becoming what God has intended for our lives. Sometimes dreams are simple other times they are more complex but there is nothing like a dream to keep you on your path and to give you hope for tomorrow.
